Chapter 18
2 Kings
1 note in this chapter
27Absurdities (g): 2 Kings 18:27
In 2 Kings 18:27, repeated in Isaiah 36:12, the Assyrian field commander warns that the men on the wall will eat their own dung and drink their own urine. The complaint is that such crude language appears in a book presented as a holy revelation, though it is the enemy’s threat that is quoted.
But the Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and to drink their own urine?”
