Chapter 23
Deuteronomy
1 note in this chapter
2Bastard: Deuteronomy 23:2
Deuteronomy 23:2 bars anyone born of a forbidden union from the assembly of the LORD, and his descendants too, to the tenth generation. Zechariah 9:6 has a mixed people dwelling in Ashdod. The argument is that a person is shut out of the worshipping community for ten generations because of the circumstances of his birth, through no act of his own.
The same theme of birth and legitimacy comes up again in the New Testament in Hebrews 12:8, which says that those without discipline are not true sons.
“No one born of a forbidden union may enter the assembly of the LORD. Even to the tenth generation, none of his descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD.
Deuteronomy 23:2
a mixed people shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of Philistia.
Zechariah 9:6
